Recommended Vegetarian Restaurants Paris
In Paris food usually comes from an animal, but these days it’s possible to eat veggie and eat well in the city.
There are a number of good vegetarian restaurants in Paris (and it’s even possible to find the occasional vegan restaurant in Paris), so it should be possible to dine out on fine food in the “city of meat”.
Places To Eat - Rive Droite
The Rive Droite (right bank, or north of the river Seine) tends to be the more cosmopolitan, or international, half of the city.
As a result, it’s home to most of the best vegetarian food in Paris. For example:
If you’re near Les Halles, check out Foodys Brunch Cafe at 26 Rue Montorgueil (metro Les Halles). This salad buffet is aimed at vegetarians and those searching for low fat food in Paris and it’s a good place to fill up at lunchtime if you’ve been wandering around the Louvre.
Further east in the Marais (metro St Paul), there are two eateries to consider:
One is La Verte Tige in Rue Ste Anastase which offers vegetarian food with an Iranian twist.
The other is Piccolo Teatro in the Rue des Ecouffes. This isn’t the place to go if you don’t eat dairy as it specialises in meat-free versions of traditional French food like gratins that contain cheese and cream.
Places To Eat - Rive Gauche
There’s not such a good selection in the southern half of Paris, but in the 5th arrondissement, there’s Les Quatre et Une Saveurs in Rue du Cardinal-Lemoine (metro Cardinal-Lemoine). The “Quatre et Une” is serious health food and you won’t find any microwaves here. The menu features vegetarian staples such as tofu and tempeh and the focus is on organic food.
Other Vegetarian-Friendly Restaurants To Consider
You can often find vegetable dishes on Paris menus, particularly in restaurants with Mediterranean or Asian cuisine. For example, there are quite a few Indian restaurants in Paris and most of them will contain plenty of meat-free options.
Avoiding Meat On The Menu
If you’re eating at non-vegetarian places, some words you’re going to need to know are:
Viande = meat
Sans viande = meat-free e.g. “c’est sans viande?” = “is it without meat?”
Legumes = vegetables
Poisson = fish
I hope this “Vegetarian Restaurants Paris” has put your mind at ease and reassured you that, as a vegetarian, you’ll be able to eat something more interesting than just baguettes and cheese if you’re in Paris.
